Shove your face into an unsung hero

As you’re reading this right now, thousands of bits of data is streaming from your processor to the Ethernet chip on your motherboard that converts this data into packets that arestreamed through your Ethernet cable, through several switches to your local main internet hub, and then out to the world where someone in Nigeria is sniffing those packets for your passwords and login information.
All of this is possible because of a man who died four days ago, Paul Baran. I’m not gonna go into Baran’s story, you can read that on Wikipedia if you choose to. But just know that without that man’s mind, you wouldn’t have been able to download that movie or song illegally. You wouldn’t have been able to Skype with your cousins on the other side of the world. You wouldn’t have been able to pay your mortgage on your bank’s website. You wouldn’t have been able to read the tweets from Japan seconds after the earthquake. You wouldn’t have been able to stream Family Guy on Hulu.
So give this man a moment of silence as his mind’s work is currently shoving your data out into the world without you even knowing.
